The Muskox of Dovrefjell

Muskox are beautiful and resilient animals that can withstand harsh temperatures as low as -50°C. For a long time, I had been longing to photograph muskox in the Dovrefjell mountains during winter. My goal was to experience the harsh environment myself and capture images of them in these extreme conditions.

Finding an experienced guide was challenging, as winter temperatures can drop to -30°C, making camping in the mountains a real challenge. Fortunately, I got in contact with Floris Smeets. Floris guided me on a wonderful 4-day trip in the Dovrefjell mountains. Temperatures were “mild,” reaching -12°C to -15°C during the daytime.

It was a dream come true to spend time in the mountains and encounter the muskox every day. This adventure left me with wonderful images and even greater memories.

A short video impression of the 4-day trip. Video shot on Gopro.
